AMP SoCal: Proposal Effort for Material Science

by in ,

The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership of Southern California (AMP SoCal) is planning to pursue an NSF planning grant for an Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) that is focused on advanced manufacturing and materials. AMP SoCal pursued this grant last year unsuccessfully, and they are taking another run at it. CI was represented in the past effort, and it would be good if we could be part of the new proposal, too. Please review the following to see if your interests align with the project.

This attempt is framed around the idea of looking at the UAV industry (which is poised for significant growth), identifying its pre-competitive needs, and structuring a proposal around those. A pre-competitive need is one that, if addressed, would be adopted by the entire industry. It is a need that would not give one business a competitive advantage over another.

Organizational conversations are ongoing. Please let me know if you want to be kept apprised of developments. Also let me know if you have know of colleagues (e.g., in material science) who might be able to contribute to and be included in the proposal development effort.
