Today is the first day that Dr. Ganesh Raman is on the job as the CSU's new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research.

Since being hired in February, Dr. Raman has traveled to California to interact with and learn from the people he will be supporting. He attending the 2016 COAST Annual meeting, the Spring meeting of the CSU Chief Research Officers, and the CSU Student Research Competition at CSU Bakersfield. During his transition time, he worked with his predecessor, Dr. Zed Mason, so he will 'hit the ground running' today.

Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development. Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks research to improve understanding of the causes of high priority diseases in the United States and to develop and test more effective interventions for reducing/eliminating health disparities. Research is encouraged in the following high priority diseases within the scientific mission areas of the NIDDK: diabetes, obesity, nutrition-related disorders, hepatitis C, gallbladder disease, H. Pylori infection, sickle cell disease, kidney diseases, urologic diseases, hematologic diseases, metabolic, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and renal complications from infection with HIV.

The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership of Southern California (AMP SoCal) is planning to pursue an NSF planning grant for an Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) that is focused on advanced manufacturing and materials. AMP SoCal pursued this grant last year unsuccessfully, and they are taking another run at it. CI was represented in the past effort, and it would be good if we could be part of the new proposal, too.
